The "Insidious" Franchise And The Further Cocktail

This week we review the "Insidious" franchise. There are four movies total. The series was created/written by Leigh Whannel and James Wan. They also directed and produced several of the movies. We reviewed their other series "The Conjuring" in episode 7 and "Saw" in episode 28. Talk about some busy people! Joseph Bishara did the music for the "Insidious" franchise and played the lipstick faced demon. Did you know he also played Bathseba and the Annabelle demon in "The Conjuring"? Pretty cool. 

One of the most interesting things at this franchise is that the main character turns out to be a something something year old woman. You dont typically see that in horror movies and it's a breath of fresh air. Lin Shaye does an excellent job of making us care and root for Elise. 

GeeksWhoEat has also created a cocktail based on the series. The Further cocktail has a smokey blue color reminiscent of the purgatory that the Lamberts and Elise often visited. Check it out here

The "Re-Animator" Franchise And Some Drinks To Reinvigorate You

This week we discuss a cult classic-- "Re-Animator". There are three films in this series. They are based on a HP Lovecraft short story "Herbert West: Re-Animator". If you like horror comedy and body horror, give it a watch.

SSS: "The Shining", "Doctor Sleep" And A Traditional Dutch Drink

This week we're covering a VERY heavy hitter. Often considered the best horror movie ever, 1980's "The Shining" was directed by Stanley Kubrick. It's sequel just came out this year. "Doctor Sleep" was directed by Mike Flanagan.  Both movies are based on Stephen King's books by the same name.

This week's recipe is derived from a drink that Grady spills on Jack in the ball room. It's Advocaat and is a yellow Dutch liqueur. It is sometimes a topping for waffles, pancakes, ice cream and other deserts. It can used as part of a thicker custard egg nog. Horror Subgenres And Ghoulia Child's Horror Themed Food Offerings

This week we're doing something slightly different. Horror is a vast film category encompassing a number of different subgenres. Of course not everyone agrees on what they are. I include 25 subgenres here and examples of each. Did I leave any out? What are your favorites? I lean more towards psychological, supernatural, crime, haunted house and of course ZOMBIES!

The "Creepshow" Franchise And The Lonesome Cookies Of Jordy Verrill

This week we are covering "Creepshow". It is often considered one of the best horror anthologies out there. There are 3 movies and a TV series in the franchise. My suggestion is check out the original movie and several segments from the series-- "The Main In The Suitcase", "The Finger" (love you Bob!), and "Skincrawlers". The TV series is visually stunning. The transitions from comics to live action and back again are great. The color saturations with bright reds, green, and purples are beautiful. One of the best things about this format is, if you dont like a story, wait a few minutes and there will be a different one.  

And in honor of Stephen King's character in the original movie, we have the Lonesome Cookies of Jordy Verrill from GeeksWhoEat.com These are sugar cookies with caramel and some fun toppings to reflect the foliage that afflicted poor Jordy. Check out their recipe here

The "Scary Movie" Franchise And A Wayans Family Recipe

This week we review the "Scary Movie" franchise. There are five movies total. These films parody popular horror movies. The formula is simple-- throw in as many horror movie references as possible, invite as many B level actor/celebrities as possible, and make as many jokes as possible (the cruder the better). 

The first two movies were written by the Wayans brothers. Keenen directed both and Shawn and Marlon starred in both. They parted ways with Miramax/Dimension Films before the third. The Weinsteins then brought in David Zucker. He's the writer and director behind such hits as "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun". He brought along his friend Leslie Nielsen.

The "I Spit On Your Grave" Franchise & Top 10 Rotisserie Recipes

The "I Spit On Your Grave" franchise contains 5 movies total. There is a 1978 original, a 2010 remake, two sequels to that and a 2019 direct sequel to the original called "I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu". Be warned. This subject matter is not for the faint of heart. These movies include graphic representations of rape, torture and revenge. They join several others in the "rape revenge" horror subgenre including: "Last House On The Left", "Revenge", "Elle", "American Mary", "Big Driver", "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", etc..

The "Hell House LLC" Franchise And Abaddon Beer

It's October again. My favorite month of the year. What better time is there to review a haunted house attraction? There are three movies total in the "Hell House LLC" franchise. And a quick suggestion. You might want to watch these AFTER going to a haunted house (instead of BEFORE). Otherwise, you may be as freaked out as I was.

The "Phantasm" Franchise And The Only Ice Cream Recipe You'll Ever Need

This week we review the "Phantasm" franchise. Although it is lesser know than some other horror offerings, it spans some forty years and five films. It's also one of the most imaginative series out there. Even if you havent seen the films, odds are you've seen a picture of The Tall Man and his killer orbs.

The "House On Haunted Hill" Franchise And Vincent Price's Bacon Mousse Recipe

This week we review "The House On Haunted Hill". This is not to be confused with "The Haunting Of Hill House". They share similar titles but have nothing to do with each other. There are three films total in "The House On Haunted Hill" franchise. The original from 1959 is considered the quintessential haunted house movie and stars the always compelling Vincent Price. 

Our recipe also comes from Vincent Price. Besides being one of the most under-rated actors of his generation, he also published several cookbooks. His recipe for a bacon mousse can be found at MyRecipes.com here
